What Tidewell does

Everything the Homebrew Package Manager offers — in a Mac app

Homebrew is the standard Brew package manager for Mac developers, but memorizing commands is not for everyone. Tidewell brings the full Homebrew 6 workflow into a visual app you can trust.

Search & install packages

Browse 8,000+ Homebrew formulas with descriptions, dependencies and install counts. One click to Brew install — no terminal required.

Cask app management

Install Mac apps through Homebrew Cask — VS Code, Chrome, Slack and hundreds more. Update or uninstall casks from the same list.

One-click updates

See every outdated brew package at a glance. Select what to upgrade, review the changelog, and run brew upgrade in one step.

Tap management

Add, browse and remove third-party Homebrew taps. See which formulas each tap provides before you install anything.

Dependency tree

Visualize what each formula depends on before you install. Know exactly what brew will pull in — kegs, dependencies and linked versions.

Brew Doctor built in

Run brew doctor from the app and get plain-English explanations of every warning. Fix common Homebrew issues with guided steps.

How it works

Try Tidewell on your Mac in three steps

Tidewell wraps the official Homebrew CLI — it does not replace or fork it. Every action runs through brew on your Mac.

  1. 1. Request a demo

Fill in the short form below with your name, email and Mac details. We send demo access within one business day — no credit card required.

  2. 2. Explore the interface

Search brew packages, read formula details, and manage casks and taps from a visual sidebar — the same workflow as the terminal, without memorizing commands.

  3. 3. Upgrade when ready

When the demo ends, choose a licence for one-click package management, batch updates and scheduled brew upgrade — or stay on the free browse-only tier.

Built on trust

Real Homebrew. No shortcuts.

Tidewell is a GUI layer on top of the official Homebrew project. We do not bundle our own package index, inject ads, or modify formulas.

  • Official brew commands only. Every install, update and uninstall runs the real Homebrew CLI on your Mac.
  • Full command log. See the exact brew command before it runs. Copy it to Terminal anytime if you prefer.
  • No bundled software. Demo access includes one app only. No browser extensions, no extra tools, no upsells.
  • Cancel in two clicks. Subscription management is on your account page. No phone maze, no retention tricks.
  • Not affiliated with Homebrew. Tidewell is an independent Mac app. Homebrew is a separate open-source project.

Homebrew Package Manager

A note on Homebrew. Homebrew is a free, open-source Homebrew Package Manager maintained by the Homebrew project. Tidewell is tested against Homebrew 6 and Homebrew 6.0.0, and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Homebrew.

How you get it

We don't hand an installer to anyone who clicks

There is no download button on this site, and that is deliberate. Mac utilities have a deservedly bad reputation for arriving bundled with something else, so we removed the possibility entirely: the only way onto your machine is a guided session with someone from our team.

It costs us sign-ups. It also means that if you ever find Tidewell offered as a download somewhere, it is not ours — and we would like to hear about it.

Runs on macOS 12 or later · Apple silicon & Intel. By requesting a session you agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

What the session covers

  • Twenty minutes, screen-shared, on your own Mac
  • Your real package list, not a prepared sandbox
  • The command preview panel, so you can check every action maps to a standard brew command
  • Setup together at the end, only if you want it

No card, no automatic billing, and no follow-up sequence.

Questions

Common questions about the demo

How do I get the demo?

Fill in the demo request form with your name, email and Mac model. We reply within one business day with access instructions. No credit card or payment is required.

Does Tidewell support Homebrew 6 and Homebrew 6.0.0?

Yes. Tidewell is built and tested against Homebrew 6 and Homebrew 6.0.0. It detects your existing Brew installation automatically — whether you are on Apple silicon (/opt/homebrew) or Intel (/usr/local) — and shows the version in the status bar.

Do I need Homebrew installed before using Tidewell?

No. If Homebrew is not on your Mac yet, Tidewell runs the official install script for you — the same one documented at brew.sh. If you already have brew installed, Tidewell detects it automatically and shows your existing packages.

Is Tidewell the same as Homebrew?

No. Homebrew is the open-source command-line package manager. Tidewell is an independent Mac app that provides a graphical interface for managing your Homebrew installation. All package operations go through the official brew CLI.

Does Tidewell work on Apple silicon and Intel Macs?

Yes. Tidewell is a universal binary that runs natively on both Apple silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) and Intel Macs. It respects Homebrew's separate /opt/homebrew and /usr/local prefixes automatically.

What happens when the demo ends?

The app switches to browse-only mode — you can still view packages and run brew doctor. To keep one-click install, batch updates and tap management, choose a licence on the pricing page or request a quote from our team.

What data do you collect?

Your installed package list and brew commands never leave your Mac. We collect your email and billing details when you purchase a licence, and anonymous crash reports only if you opt in. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Subscriptions cancel from your account page in two clicks. Within 30 days of purchase you can request a full refund — see the Refund Policy.
