Tidewell

Homebrew Package Manager for everyone who uses a Mac

Tidewell exists because Homebrew is the best Brew package manager for Mac — and most users never touch it because the terminal gets in the way. We built the GUI layer we wished existed for Homebrew 6.

Why we built this

Homebrew powers millions of Mac and MacBook setups. The Homebrew Package Manager installs developer tools, command-line utilities and full Mac apps through Homebrew casks — all from a single, well-maintained index. With Homebrew 6 and Homebrew 6.0.0, the project is more capable than ever — and still entirely terminal-based. For anyone comfortable in Terminal, it is genuinely great.

But most Mac users are not developers. They hear about brew packages from a colleague or a tutorial, open Terminal, paste a command they half understand, and hope nothing breaks. The Mac package manager workflow is powerful yet opaque — and the existing GUIs either wrap a forked index, bundle ads, or hide what commands actually run.

Brew Mac is our answer: a native macOS app that wraps the official Homebrew CLI, shows every command before it executes, and makes install, update and uninstall as straightforward as any App Store app — without replacing or modifying Homebrew itself.

What we will not do

These are commitments, not marketing lines. If we ever break one, it will be a defect and you should report it.

  • No forked package index. Every install, upgrade and uninstall runs the real brew binary on your Mac. We do not maintain our own formulas or inject third-party sources.
  • No bundled software. One installer, one app. No browser extension, no toolbar, no second product, no changed default search engine.
  • No dark patterns at checkout or cancellation. Prices and renewal terms are shown before payment. Cancelling takes two clicks and never requires a phone call.
  • No selling your data. We do not sell, rent or share personal information with data brokers or advertisers. Your installed package list and brew commands never leave your Mac.
  • No distribution through bundlers. The only official download is from tidewell.app. If you got Tidewell anywhere else, delete it and tell us where you found it.
